The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) stands in solidarity with the Afghan community and calls on the Biden administration to increase America’s capacity for refugee resettlement and protect those in pursuit of relocation. As the refugee crisis in Afghanistan continues to develop, it is imperative to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of those affected. If you would like to take action to put pressure on Congress and the Biden administration to help the Afghan people, click here. 

For those with loved ones in danger in Afghanistan and those attempting to relocate: 

1) You can reach out to your local representatives in Congress. Find your representative here.  

2) Information regarding relocation efforts on behalf of the U.S. government can be found hereRelocation information is specific to one’s citizenship and immigration status.  

  • For information on relocation of U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents (LPRs) and spouses and minor children of U.S. citizens in Afghanistan who are awaiting immigrant visas, click here. 
  • For information regarding those with Special Immigrant Visa (SVI) applications, click here. 
  • For those in Afghanistan in fear of persecution:  

  • You can seek safety at the nearest refugee camp and register with a designated Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) or the United Nations (UN) as a refugee. 
  • If you can make it to a port of entry at a U.S. border, you can apply for asylum. 

  • For information on the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, click here 


3) For current safety precautions recommended by the U.S. Department of State while traveling, clichere.
